​1. REGISTRATION AND RESPONSIBILITY

1.1 To reserve a place on a course, participants should complete and submit the online enrolment form.

​

1.2 Course fees may be paid in advance by bank transfer or on arrival in Rome, before the course begins.

Advance payment or a deposit is required only in specific cases. This applies in particular to courses with a limited number of participants.

If requested, Scudit will issue a confirmation of enrolment.

Students who need proof of enrolment in order to apply for an entry visa to Italy must pay the course fee in advance.

1.4 If participants who have already paid the course fee or a deposit need to cancel their enrolment, refunds will be made according to the following policy:

a) Cancellation notified at least 30 days before the course begins: full refund (excluding any bank charges).

b) Cancellation notified at least 15 days before the course begins: 50% refund (excluding any bank charges).

c) Cancellation notified less than 15 days before the course begins: no refund.

No refunds are possible once the course has started.

d) If a visa application is refused and participation in the course therefore has to be cancelled, a refund will be made only after Scudit has received official confirmation of the visa refusal from the relevant Italian Embassy or Consulate.

1.5 Individual lessons must be cancelled at least 24 hours before their scheduled starting time.

2. GENERAL INFORMATION

​

2.1 Scudit normally accepts enrolments from students who are at least 17 years old. Applications from students under the age of 17 require prior approval from the Academic Director.

​

2.2 A preliminary consultation is also required for students who are not familiar with the Latin alphabet. In these cases, we may recommend a different type of programme.

​

2.3 Intensive group courses are held either in the morning or in the afternoon. Class schedules are determined by the school on the first day of the course according to organisational requirements. During most of the year, however, intensive group courses are held in the morning.

​

2.4 On the first day of an intensive course, the first 60 minutes are devoted to a placement test. Absolute beginners start their lessons immediately and do not take the test.

​

2.5 Every two weeks, classes may be reorganised according to each student's progress, as assessed by the teacher. Please see our Teaching FAQs for further information.

2.6 Students arriving late for class may be asked to wait until the next break before joining the lesson.

​

2.7 University students who require a certificate of attendance for their home institution must attend at least 68 of the 80 lesson hours (85% attendance).

​

2.8 Free guided tours are organised only if requested by at least seven participants.

​

2.9 Lessons are not held on Italian public holidays.

​

2.10 Scudit cannot accept responsibility for the loss of personal belongings or for any matters arising between students and the owners of accommodation recommended by the school.

​

2.11 Students are responsible for arranging their own health and accident insurance if they wish to be covered during their stay. Citizens of EU countries are entitled to medical treatment in Italy under the applicable European health insurance arrangements.

3. COURSES
 

3.1 Group courses normally begin every two weeks. Courses for absolute beginners normally begin every four weeks. If you would like to start on a different date, please contact the Scudit office.
 

3.2 Every week, Scudit offers one free extra-curricular activity (a lecture, film presentation or guided tour), provided that at least seven participants request it.
 

3.3 Group classes have a maximum of 12 students, and only during the busiest periods of the year. Most classes have between 5 and 9 students.
 

3.4 If, when classes are organised according to language level, only one student is placed in a particular class, the course will not be cancelled. Instead, the student will receive two hours of individual tuition per day rather than four hours of group lessons.
 

3.5 All teaching materials required for the lessons are provided free of charge by the teacher. We are happy to recommend course books, but purchasing them is entirely optional.
 

3.6 One lesson hour corresponds to 45 minutes. After every two lesson hours there is a 15-minute coffee break.
 

3.7 The enrolment fee is €50 and remains valid for 12 months.
 

3.8 Upon request, Scudit issues certificates of enrolment, attendance and language achievement indicating the level reached.

4. ACCOMMODATION
 

4.1 For accommodation arranged through Scudit, arrival is normally on the Sunday before the course begins and departure on the Saturday after the course ends, no later than 10.00 a.m.
 

4.2 Apartments may be shared exclusively with other Scudit students or with the owner of the apartment. These are not homestays: meals and daily activities are not shared. Guests enjoy their independence and are responsible for their own use of the accommodation.
 

4.3 The bathroom and kitchen are shared. All guests are expected to leave them clean after use so that they are ready for the next person. Cleaning bedrooms and shared areas is the responsibility of the occupants.
 

4.4 Any problems or damage in the apartment should be reported to the owner, who will arrange any necessary repairs. Guests are responsible for the cost of any damage they cause. Owners may request a refundable security deposit.
 

4.5 The rental agreement is a private arrangement between the guest and the owner of the apartment. Scudit is responsible only for recommending suitable accommodation. Payment should be made directly to the owner upon arrival.
 

4.6 Guests are not permitted to invite visitors to stay overnight in the apartment without the owner's prior permission. Failure to comply with this rule may result in immediate termination of the accommodation without refund.
 

4.7 A little common sense goes a long way when sharing an apartment. Please avoid using the kitchen late at night, playing loud music, using all the hot water when others are waiting to shower, making excessive use of electrical appliances, or ignoring the building's regulations.

Guests staying in private apartments are also responsible for taking the rubbish out each day and placing it in the green street bins provided by the city.
