What standard can I expect from the apartments recommended by the school?
For many years Scudit has worked with owners of private apartments located in areas with good public transport connections to the school.
These are simple but reliable places to stay, suitable for students who would like to live independently in Rome without spending more than necessary.
They are not luxury apartments, but they are clean, comfortable and equipped with everything needed for a pleasant and reasonably priced stay.
Apartments shared with the owners themselves are usually the best maintained.
What exactly do you mean by a "single room in a private apartment"?
It means having your own private bedroom in an apartment shared with other people. The bathroom and kitchen are shared.
Can I stay in a double room?
Yes, if you are travelling to Rome with another person, we can usually arrange a double room.
If you are travelling on your own, however, it is very unlikely that we will be able to find another student willing to share a room during the same period.
Who are the other people living in the apartment?
It depends.
You may be sharing the apartment only with other Scudit students, only with the owners, or with both the owners and other students.
If the owners live in the apartment, can this be considered a "host family" stay?
Definitely not.
The owners simply provide students with a room, the keys to the apartment, and the use of the shared bathroom and kitchen.
Everyone lives independently and goes about their own daily routine.
Of course, friendships sometimes develop naturally - but they can't be planned.
What can I expect to find in the apartment?
The school makes sure that every student room has everything needed for a comfortable stay: a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, bed linen and towels (although we recommend bringing your own towels if possible).
Apartments also have a kitchen equipped with the essentials and, in most cases, a washing machine.
Air conditioning, internet access and other amenities are optional. Some apartments have them, others do not.
Where air conditioning is available, there is usually an additional charge because electricity in Italy is relatively expensive.
Will the apartment be close to the school?
The apartments recommended by the school are always well connected to Scudit by public transport, usually requiring only one bus or metro journey.
The earlier you book, the better your chances of finding accommodation in a particularly convenient location.
Do I have to stay in accommodation recommended by the school?
Absolutely not.
If you already have friends in Rome or find accommodation that suits you better, you're welcome to stay wherever you like.
In fact, we're happy when students find a good solution on their own.
What if the apartment is different from what I expected?
Before students arrive, the school does its best to provide as much information as possible about the apartment, so there are no unpleasant surprises.
If, on arrival, you feel that the accommodation is significantly different from what you were expecting, you are free to decline it - provided you make that decision immediately upon arrival.
Please remember that landlords collect the agreed payment when students arrive. Once it has been paid, it cannot be refunded.
When can I move in, and when do I have to leave?
Students normally arrive on the Sunday before their course begins and leave on the Saturday after it ends.
Who is responsible for cleaning?
Everyone is responsible for keeping their own room clean.
In the shared areas, everyone is expected to clean up after themselves, especially by washing their dishes after meals and leaving the bathroom tidy after use.
Can I use the kitchen whenever I like?
Yes, provided you use it at times that do not disturb the other people living in the apartment, especially if the owners also live there.
In other words, just use common sense.
Can I stay one more day or arrive a day earlier?
The apartments we recommend are normally used by Scudit students on a weekly basis, following the school calendar.
If you arrive earlier or leave later than the standard dates, the owners may not have enough time to prepare the apartment for the next students.
During the quieter months it is sometimes possible to arrange extra nights, but during the busy summer season this is often not possible, and you may need to make alternative arrangements.
Can the school find accommodation for me even if I'm not taking a course?
No.
The accommodation we recommend is reserved exclusively for students enrolled at Scudit.
Can friends come to visit me?
Yes, but only with the permission of the owner of the apartment.
Can a friend stay overnight in my room for a couple of days?
Definitely not.
The rooms are reserved exclusively for Scudit students who have requested accommodation.
Even a one-night stay by a guest is not permitted without the owner's prior agreement and must comply with Italian regulations, which require the owner to register all guests staying in the apartment.
Does the price I pay the owner include everything?
Yes.
For this reason, we ask students to use electricity responsibly - for example, by turning off lights when they are not needed, as electricity is relatively expensive in Italy.
The owner may ask for an additional payment only if you choose optional services such as internet access (where available), air conditioning (where available), or extra cleaning.
Is there anything else I should know?
Not really.
Just remember that you will be sharing an apartment with other people, each with their own routines and way of living.
If everyone shows a little consideration and uses a bit of common sense, living together is usually easy and enjoyable.
